Knit a Shopping Bag for Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day! If you are feeling Earth conscious this week why not knit yourself a shopping bag & reduce your plastic bag consumption.

We used the Stow Away Shopping Bag pattern from Oat Couture. It expands as you fill it - very useful for farmers markets & street fairs in the coming months.

Happy Earth Day.

baby hats

Kate finished two hats during our most recent baby gifts class. Knitting things for children is a great way to embark on a new project without the commitment of an adult sized item.

These adorable hats are knit with Blue Sky Alpacas Bulky Hand Dyes using their pattern Bulky Baby Hat. It can be knit in the round or in rows with a seam, great options for knitters of all levels! This soft & warm yarn is kettle dyed for incredible depth and dimension.

Bridgets First Scarf

Bridget learned how to knit this February & as he first project she knit a scarf for a friend. She used Manos del Uruguay & Kidsilk Night together, both in black and made a 1x1 rib scarf. It is gorgeous & soft and the photo below does not do it justice.
Combining different yarns together is a great way to experiment with yarn & make something unique to suit your personal style.

Sheep Shop scarf

Sheep 2 by Sheep Shop is a beautiful hand dyed, 2 ply bulky yarn in a wonderful array of colors. Pat chose the light blue to make a seed stitch scarf which she describes as soft and squishy. It is a lovely yarn to work with & wear.

Pat is knitting it into a scarf for a friend currently. Other projects it has been used for are the Lace Leaf Pullover by Teva Durham & Foliage by Emilee Mooney. It is a shop favorite.

Rambling Rows by Sara

Sara is a very talented knitter and is especially detail oriented. She makes beautiful knit things for her family and friends. The same can be said for her finished Rambling Rows baby blanket knit out of baby night.

The pastel palette lends itself well to this blanket pattern and is perfectly unisex for the baby on the way. To finish off the blanket Sara did a crochet border of single crochet around in the yellow. It is gorgeous and sure to be a favorite for the baby.

For those of you unfamiliar with Rambling Rows it is a pattern written by Carol Anderson for her line of patterns called Cottage Creations. She is a very talented designer and her patterns are a favorites at the shop.

Not your Average Mittens

Mia, our February Beginners Knit graduate, completed her first mitten which was also her first project!

What we love best about these mittens is her choice of contrasting Koigu colors. Mia who has a great eye for color chose the darker purple and light pink and was so pleased with how the colors came together in the mittens. We now encourage all our customers to experiment with different Koigu color combinations. The color combinations are endless and truly make any project unique!

Not to mention doubled Koigu is perfect on size 7 needles for those who are scared to go down in needle but want to use this great hand painted yarn. We are excited to see what other color combos emerge!

Big Bad Baby Blanket

After years of loving the simplistic & beautiful pattern we decided to make it ourselves. The Big Bad Baby Blanket pattern from Deb Stollers original Stitch N Bitch is knit out of Koigus' KPPPM held doubled throughout.

And here it is with our favorite mascot, Riley.

Deep in thought.....

Sara's Scarf

Sara came in the other day wearing a newly knit bulky scarf made with Sheep 2, Blue Sky Organic Cotton & Soft Kid.

The colors look great with her red coat & is sure to keep her warm through spring! Below is a closer shot showing more yarn detail.

Kerri's Fruit Cap

Everyone loves the fruit caps pattern by Ann Norling. They are adorable for children and Kerri knit up a very cute one for a special baby on the way.

She used the Cascade 220 superwash in pink & lime green - we think it is a great combination. The pattern is a great intro to colorwork in knitting and was Kerri's first time knitting in the round as well as using the magic loop technique to avoid double pointed needles. She did a great job.

We did. In Manos del Uruguay color G coffee.

08 Resolutions, good ones ;-)

We are so excited for a new year of knits, yarn and inspiration! We have lots planned for 08 including new class workshops, new patterns, and of course beautiful yarns!

The newest to the shop, Manos Silk Wool has been knitted up in two beautiful neck warmers. Above, is the Here and There Cables scarf from Scarf Style that our fabulous friend Amy knitted up. We love the deep purple color!

Also, off the knit blogs is the Bainbridge Scarf from Pepperknit. One ball of the silk wool here makes for a perfect neck warmer.

We truly love Manos Silk wool and find it the perfect yarn for scarves as well as hats and wrist warmers. We hope you'll pop in and get a good feel of this yarn.

We have so much more to share so pop back over to PY Knits Soon!

A Hat for Gina

Gina Tognoni, of Guiding Light fame, and a Patricia's Yarns friend and customer, looked adorable in a hand-knit hat on the CBS telecast of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. The hat was knit from Rowan Cocoon in Polar White (stop by the shop for the pattern).

Gina was also very kind to mention our shop. Thank you Gina!

Maureen's Sweater

Beautiful! And just in time for Winter. A Cottage Creations Scandinavian Pattern knit from Rowan Kid Classic Yarn. Well done, Maureen!

Manos Silk

Everyone loves Manos del Uraguay's hand-dyed colorways. Now Patricia's Yarns would like to introduce you to their softest, most luxurious yarn yet, Manos Silk. It's everything you expect from Manos, only softer!
