Jordana Paige Trunk Show

Jordana Paige is a fantastic knitter & bag designer! She started designing bags 7 years ago as a freshman in college because she wanted a stylish bag for her knitting. We are pleased to be showcasing the full line during this trunk show.

Heidi's First Project

Heidi began beginners knitting on Feb 3rd. Two weeks later she was ready to take on a project & wanted to do some knitting for the babies her friends & family are having in the coming weeks. Tuesday night she left knitting away on her first project & Wednesday she came in to do the finishing touches.


This past week her sister had a little girl & Heidi came in to show off her second finished baby hat!

What a good Aunt! Monogrammed even! The hats were knit out of Baby Night, a fantastic 100% merino wool yarn that is machine washable. Well done Heidi!

... nothing but blue skies....

We interrupt this winter for something everyone needs more of... blue skies! Blue Sky Alpacas sent us eight beautiful knits for the first Patricia's Yarns trunk show of 2009. Baby sweaters to adult sweaters and accessories in between they are all made from soft yarns in great colors to provide the perfect inspiration for spring!

The Girls Sundress is a fantastic dress to grow with knit in the softest Blue Sky Cotton. It has a wide range of sizes as well, from 6 months to 3T.


For the new baby coming this spring we have the Baby Cardigan which is adorable & unisex when knit in the Organic Handspun Cotton - perfect for the family that doesn't know if their baby on the way is a boy or girl!


However, if they do know the gender or it would be a perfect knit for a little one in your life a gender specific version would be great in the Skinny Cotton which we have in many beautiful colors:

Finally, a shop favorite that is a very pure pattern and truly is an heirloom, the Eyelet Baby Blanket knit out of the Hand Dye Worsted from Blue Sky. It is so soft & luxurious it begs to be cuddled.

A walk in the woods

Monday was a day off for most so Adam, Riley & I went for a walk in the woods at Eagle Rock Reservation. It was a crisp winter day but we looked forward to getting out of Hoboken for the afternoon. I didn't bring my knitting but knitting kind of found me. We came across this little gnome perched in a tree wearing a knit red hat! I had to snap a photo & share it as it was too cute!

Happy Smitten!

In the spirit of Valentines day we came across Smitten provided by Cocoknits. It is a mitten designed for holding hands with whomever you are 'smitten' with. We knit it out of Rowan Big Wool in color 48 - Lichen.

It is a very cute gift for your sweetheart to show you care throughout the year.

Boutique Knits Argyle Lace Hat

Interweave publishes some of the best books out there and Boutique Knits by Laura Irwin is one of our favorites.
There are so many cute accessories in this book it can be hard to choose but the Argyle Lace hat matched up with the Road to China Light perfectly & resulted in a wonderfully light & warm winter hat!


The pattern is very unique fun knit that comes together quickly - easily a weekend knit.

New in '09 update!

We have some new events, yarns, books & colors of Manos silk blend to share today!

Patricia's Yarns will be holding regular knit nights starting on Thursday February 5th at 6 PM. The evenings will be spent stitching, sharing ideas & noshing on nibbles. We request that you sign up in advance as space is limited. There is a $5 fee for the event to cover the cost of nibbles & beverages.

The first of our new spring yarns has arrived - Ty-dy from knit one crochet too! It is a fantastic variegated cotton yarn that has a "tie-dyed" effect when you knit with it!

Our newest book in our knitting library is French Girl Knits.

We are thrilled with the beauty of this book with 18 fantastic patterns. Kristeen Griffin - Grimes is known for seamless construction which is great for new & experienced knitters.

Last but certainly not least, we have new Manos Silk Blend colors in stock!

From left to right, hibiscus, powder, lawn, butter & wisteria are new colors for the spring, perfect to add a little color on a winter day.

Happy New Year

We are back from the holiday time away feeling refreshed and excited for the new year ahead. Upon our return to the shop we were greeted with packages holding some very exciting things... Addi Turbo Clicks & Koigu.

A few customers have been waiting patiently for their sets to come in & Chris was first in to purchase his set. He sat down & immediately transferred his sleeve of his Tomten jacket onto a new pair of Addi Clicks. It was definitely love. He is working the sleeve utilizing the 'Magic Loop' which is an ideal technique for the very flexible blue addi click cord.

Next we opened the big box of Koigu full of a mix of KPPPM & KPM in fantastic colors.

Just in from the Fibre Co.

The Fibre Co. brings us a new yarn that is fantastic to touch, feel, look at, wear & most of all work with. It's called Road to China Light and is comprised of baby alpaca, cashmere, camel & silk. We have brought in ten colors of this luxurious yarn:

The palette of colors reminds some people of sea glass... the way the color gets muted by the glass being polished by the sand. What will it make you think of? Come in & touch it for yourself... it's exquisite.

2008 PY Holiday Gift Guide

So maybe you don't have the time to knit all those gorgeous knits below, but you do want to get your favorite knitters and crocheters (or wanna be knitters and crocheters!) something for the holidays. Here's where we come in with our tried and true PY Gift Guide.

For the Knit Beginner:



1 Stitch n' Bitch Handbook - We Love Debbie Stoller's beginners book. Her great knit-personality comes out with her easy to follow directions and diagrams. The book is complete with some really easy projects to get over that 1st project hump!

1 pair of Size 11 Bamboo Needles - These are a great size for a beginner. They're easy to hold and navigate stitches. You'll be purling or knitting away with these in no time.

2 - Skeins of Misti Alpaca Chunky. We just can't keep enough of this soft and warm alpaca on the shelves. It's lofty nature is perfect for that pick me up scarf. It will make your first knit project seem so luxurious (well that's 'cause it is!).

Also a Beginner Favorite: Worsted Weight Yarn! Here at the shop there's so many different ones to choose from! For your basic washable yarn, there's Mission Falls 1824 Wool, a lovely and soft yarn to work with that truly shows stitches and won't come apart easily. Or kick up the holiday giving a notch and treat your beginner to a skein of Manos Del Uruguay. This kettle dyed wool is a one ply that creates a beautiful fabric just using the knit stitch.

1 - Last Minute Knitted Gifts - We cannot get enough of the projects in this great book by Joelle Hoverson. From mittens, to hats to blankets - this book has it all. A great book for your knit library some different patterns. Make a nice pair of leg warmers while you're at it and channel your inner Jennifer Beals. (that's a Flashdance reference for those of you born after 1983)

1 - skein of soft Lorna's Laces. This worsted weight handpainted yarn has quickly become a shop favorite. It comes in beautiful deep jewel toned colors and just one is needed for a hat!

For the sock knitter:



1 - set of Blue Sky Rosewood Double Pointed Needles. Lovely packaged and we know why. These DPNs are a dream to knit with. Your fav sock knitter won't ever look back having used these needles.

2 - skeins of Koigu Painters Palette Premium Merino. There are just so many beautiful colors to choose from. Roy G. Biv would be proud.

For the lace knitter:



1 - set of Addi Turbo Lace Needles (US 1s, 2s, or 3s!) When Addi came out with their lace needles we were a bit skeptical - i mean an improvement to the already awesome Addi Turbos? No way!? Yes, way, Ted! These needles allow for a more controlled knitting experience for lace. No slippery stitches here!

1 - Knitted Lace of Estonia book. Be inspired to knit lace with this gorgeous book.

An Afghan for Charity

It's amazing what knitters can do when they come together for pizza, a little wine, conversation and a mission:

We are please to present you with this year's Afghan for the Hoboken Homeless Shelter Silent Auction. This blanket was started at our Charity Knit Night at Grimaldi's Pizzeria back in July. Twenty knitters casted on their square that night and began what we hoped would be a gorgeous blanket. The squares began showing up at the shop and soon were stitched together and blocked. What we discovered as the blanket dried was that gorgeous was indeed an understatement.

This afghan was knit out of Manos del Uruguay wool classica and will be available for your bid 0n Wednesday night December 3rd at Teak during the Hoboken Homeless Shelter Annual Silent Auction.

Rambling Rows in Rowan Purelife

Jackie knits the most beautiful baby blankets. This is the Rambling Rows afghan from Cottage Creations knit in garter stitch in one piece so there is no seaming at the end. The pattern is written with directions for three sizes and is designed to use 5 colors. The Purelife color palette makes for a fantastic gender neutral blanket. Jackie said it was a hit at the shower, no surprise there as its gorgeous. Well done!

Jen's Dashing

Jen has made a few pairs of Dashing out of Calmer by Rowan & on Tuesday she came in with her newest finished pair!
They are adorable, cozy & friendly for people who don't want wool! They come out a bit tighter which is great for women as the pattern is written for men. A fantastic quick knit for someone special on your holiday gift list!

Chris loves Manos...

And we do too! Manos silk blend & Wool Classica compose Chris' winter accessories for fall 2008. The hat is knit out of the silk blend in two colors 3068-Citric & 3055-Olive, and the scarf is classica 101-Jungle.

He's all set for the change of season - great job Chris!

Misti Throw

Misti Alpaca is such a soft cozy yarn that feels wonderful to work with. I have loved it since the first time I touched it. As such, I decided to make a throw out of it as the cool weather approaches.

It is a quick knit on size 11 needles & took 8 hanks. I look forward to bundling up in it come cool evenings. Riley enjoys it too.

A shawl in time for fall

When Margaux & I went to TNNA in Columbus we found many exciting products to bring back to the shop. Margaux found Kate Jackson who was a new exhibitor at the fall show debuting her original patterns. I fell in love with many and knit up the November Ruffle Shawl.

I knit it using two Rowan yarns held together. Kid Classic in Peat, and Felted Tweed in Treacle. We've come up with many color combinations that would make an amazing shawl, to show a few:
